03 - 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
04 - 2 cloves garlic, minced

→ Sauce & Seasonings

05 - 1 cup tomato sauce (240 ml)
06 - 2 tbsp tomato paste
07 - 2 tbsp ketchup
08 - 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
09 - 1 tbsp brown sugar
10 - 1 tsp yellow mustard
11 - 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
12 - 0.5 tsp kosher salt
13 - 0.25 tsp freshly ground black pepper
14 - 0.25 tsp chili powder (optional)

→ To Serve

15 - 4 soft hamburger buns, split and lightly toasted
16 - Dill pickle slices (optional)

# Directions:

01 - Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook, stirring and breaking up with a spoon, until browned and no longer pink, about 5 to 6 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
02 - Add chopped onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until softened, approximately 3 to 4 minutes.
03 - Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, smoked paprika, kosher salt, black pepper, and optional chili powder until evenly combined.
04 - Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens and flavors meld.
05 - Taste and adjust seasoning as needed before serving.
06 - Spoon beef mixture generously onto lower halves of toasted buns. Add dill pickle slices if desired, then cover with top halves. Serve immediately.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The sauce comes together with ingredients you already have in your pantry
  • Its faster than delivery and tastes infinitely better
  • Perfect for feeding a crowd without spending hours in the kitchen
02 -
  • The sauce needs at least 10 minutes of simmering time to thicken properly, so do not rush this step
  • Letting the mixture rest for a few minutes off the heat helps the sauce cling to the beef better
  • Over-browning the beef can make the final texture tough, so stop when it is just no longer pink
03 -
  • A splash of beef broth or a pat of butter stirred in at the end makes the sauce incredibly rich
  • Lightly toasting the buns creates a barrier that prevents them from getting soggy too quickly
